Huckabee Family papers

Cousins, Susan Bedell and Lucille Headlee became close when they were young girls (7 to 9 years). Susan and her family lived at Woodbine Plantation and Lucille’s family would come down and stay during the summers. They shared many happy memories at the plantation home and kept in touch over the years, but only through Christmas cards.

Years later, Lucille Headlee Chrisman became interested in her family’s history and began researching their roots. She began by contacting and corresponding with family members. She and cousin Susan Bedell Huckabee reconnected and began a 26 year correspondence sharing family history and family news. The also began visiting each other in their homes, Susan in St. Simons Island, GA and Lucille in Springfield, MO.

Woodbine Plantation was a huge rice plantation on the Satilla River in Camden County, Georgia. The Bedell’s bought the plantation in 1884. J.K. Bedell deeded property to the railroad for the right of way and station in 1893 and became known as the founder of Woodbine.
