Biographical / Historical

Isaac Arnow, a native of St. Marys, Georgia was considered an authority on local historical data and hundreds of people called on him each year for information concerning family histories and land transactions in the area. Through his knowledge of land dealings over the years, he served as real estate agent, handling a majority of property transactions in St. Marys and Camden County.

He served as postmaster for 15 years and held numerous other political positions in St. Marys and Camden County. Isaac Arnow was a County Commissioner, City Councilman, member of the City and County Tax Equalization Board and County Treasurer. He was the oldest member of the St. Marys Methodist Church and served as a Steward and official of the church for many years.

Mr. Arnow recorded his vast knowledge of St. Marys in booklet form and The Tribune re-printed it during the early 1950s in weekly installments entitled “History of St. Marys and Camden County”.

He was married to Annie Mongin Arnow. They had four daughters. Isaac Arnow died in April of 1957 at the age of 87 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Georgia.
